Greenwich University MArch Architecture Part 2 - Design project

For Design unit I have decided to propose a high-rise in the city of London.

In a post-Brexit time, there is no trade deal agreed with the EU, the UK is struggling to feed its population on the 23% food it produced domestically. The elites of London has successfully turned London into a City State breaking away from the rest of the UK, they are desperately in need of a local supply of their fresh vegetables and fruits.

The proposal is to utilise small patch of land on the North bank of river Thames on the west edge of the City of London, adjacent to the River Thames the building filter dirty water from the Thames and uses it to fertilise the vertical form it houses. Valuable crops such as oyster mushrooms, truffles, berries and salads are grown in the vertical farm to feed the wealthy in the city.

The vertical farm utilises the sun during daylight hours to grow its vegetables, and during night blue and red led lights are turned on to make sure the crops grow 24/7 without disturbance. Wastewaters coming out of the building will be much cleaner than the water going in from the Thames.

The 3D model is modelled in Sketchup as I have been using the software for work for a few years, all elements have either been grouped or put into component to speed up the reaction time while modelling and to cut the model size down. Plugins such as Fredo tools, joint push and pull, Voronoi etc has been used to model the building. Then for visualisation, I have transferred the model into Twinmotion to materialise and set the environment to produce a preview render of the model.

Below are a few renders of the model:
