GIS
GIS is short for geographic information system, it let us visualize, analyse and interpret data to understand relationships, patterns and trends,

ArcGIS (ESRI) is a software designed for all forms of geographically referenced information.

Digimap

Greenwich university students need to login to the portal and click on My Learning

Then under the sub-menu  'search the Library' click on 'Online database and academic journals'

Click on 'D'
Click into 'Digimap: Ordnance Survey Collection'
Log into Digimap with Greenwich University student account
Click on Ordnance Survey, then Data Download
Inside Data Download interface, either search for a location or find it on the screen in zoom. Then select the data you need, in this case Topography, Building Height Attribute under OS MasterMap, and OS Terrin 5DTM under Land and Height Data as we need to use it in GIS
After selected everything click 'add to basket' and select relevant format of files required for download, the download link will be sent to the student email address.
One of the other options is Historical data, on the Historic page, click on 'Historic Data Download'
Once again select the relevant data required, in this case 1853-1904 1st edition.

Lidar Digimap is a very accurate model of high-flood risk locations covering the entire UK. These data are collected by 3 governmental agencies:

1. Environment Agency (EA) in England
2. Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) in Scotland
3. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) in Wales

Digimap has a new feature called Society, this shows a range of demographic data within the UK. Data include a variety of choices including: GCSE results, type of family formation, family with higher education degrees, age, race etc.
